If the idea of utilizing your passion for skincare day in and day out is an exciting prospect to you, then esthetician school may be exactly the next step you need to take. Before you dive in headfirst, there are a few things you should know — what to expect from esthetician school, how to prepare for it, and questions you should ask before you enroll. Read on to discover all the essential information you need to feel confident about choosing an esthetician school that’s right for you.

How to Prepare for Esthetician School

Preparing for esthetician school is similar to making preparations for other post-high school education opportunities. You should do your research on schools in your area, learn more about what curriculum you’ll be engaging in once you enroll, and schedule a few tours at your top campus choices.

Equip yourself with as much knowledge as you can, reaching beyond what you already know and love about the field of esthetics, so that you can ask the right questions and truly narrow your focus to determine which school will be the best fit for your passions and goals.

Questions to Ask Before Starting Esthetician School

Once you’ve done your research, it’s time to create a list of questions. These questions will help guide your initial conversations with potential esthetics schools, and will help you narrow down potential schools to a smaller list of dream schools you want to attend. Here are some crucial questions you should ask or be able to find on the websites of the schools you are considering:

  • How long is your program?
  • Does your school offer job placement assistance?
  • What can I expect to learn during the program?
  • Does the curriculum cover everything I need to know for the state licensure exam?
  • Do you offer financial aid?
  • Is your school accredited?
  • What are the application requirements?
  • Is there a strong alumni network?

These questions should cover the basics you need to know, but feel free to personalize the list with questions more specific to your situation and needs.

Esthetician Schooling Requirements

Each state has different requirements to become a licensed esthetician, and as such, each state has slightly different schooling requirements as well. Tricoci University of Beauty Culture is proud to offer a top-notch education in three states. Our campuses in Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin provide the education you need to become an esthetician, though each state’s curriculum and requirements look a little different.

Indiana

In Indiana, you need a minimum of 700 hours of training in order to sit for the licensure exam. At Tricoci University, we provide 750 hours of training to help ensure you are prepared. To obtain a license in Indiana, you must be at least 18 years of age and have completed an esthetics program with an accredited school. Illinois

In Illinois, you need 750 hours of training to sit for the licensure exam. You also must have completed a program with an accredited school and receive a 75 or higher on the exam itself. To see the full list of esthetician schooling and licensure requirements in Illinois, click here.

Wisconsin

In Wisconsin, Aesthetics (also known as Esthetics) programs require a minimum of 450 hours to sit for the state licensure exam.
