Beauty History of Rockford, IL
Rockford may not be as big as Chicago, but this town has a strong history when it comes to beauty. Cosmetics manufacturer Color Lab Cosmetics, for example, is Rockford-based and was launched when a local makeup artist wanted to recreate a discontinued shade of lipstick. Owner Mary Swab has since patented her color-mixing methods. The company has made history once more by allowing anyone to create custom cosmetics for a special event.
Rockford has always been home to prominent players in the beauty industry. This includes, but is not limited to, special effects makeup artist Shaun Smith (Face/Off, Dawn of the Dead, and The Chronicles of Narnia), Virgil Abloah (Louis Vuitton artistic director), and Kelly Bensimon (Elle Accessories editor).
On a more recent note, local startup Bearded Republic is now manufacturing beard-care products, such as beard butters, that can improve facial hair texture while moisturizing the skin underneath.
Beauty Events in Rockford, IL
Every summer, Rockford is home to the Barber/Battle, which provides the entire community a chance to compete for a range of titles, such as the Best Fad, Best Creative Hairstyle, or Best Creative Makeup. More than this, the event supports and funds domestic violence awareness campaigns, making it broadly beneficial.
The Natural Hair Health and Beauty Expo is an annual event held at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Rockford. Each participating barber and hairstylist creates their own look for a model to showcase during the runway portion of the event. This event is widely popular.
Beauty is an important part of many special events in every walk of life, but few are quite as important as our weddings.
