Beauty History of Glendale Heights, IL

Glendale Heights has a rich and complex beauty history. From the 1992 Miss Illinois Leilani Magnussen to the DuPage County Historical Museum’s Beauty Through the Years exhibit (which showcased 150 years of fashion), we have seen it all.

Though Glendale Heights has never had the same global reputation for fashion as some other neighborhoods, we nonetheless have a long history of keeping up with the heartbeat of high fashion. From the original department stores to fashion catalogs, the women of Glendale Heights have always kept up with all of the changing trends.

One area where Glendale Heights has often been a trendsetter is male beauty. While men’s makeup is trending today, Glendale Heights native Billy Corgan has been showcasing male makeup for decades. The alt-rocker has even forayed into fashion with a partnership with Chloe Mendel that is set to be truly iconic.

Beauty Events in Glendale Heights, IL

Chicago has many beauty events which have proven to be a great resource for Glendale Heights’ beauty professionals. There are many noteworthy events that take place less than an hour from the campus, including Chicago Fashion Week, America’s Beauty Show and Makeup Show Chicago.

Beauty students who are interested in theatrical hair and makeup can get a taste of their profession by volunteering with local theatre troupes. Local options include Bright Lights Theatre in Glendale Heights and McAninch Arts Center in Glen Ellyn.

We also encourage our students to attend bridal shows, as this is a great way for them to see the latest hair and makeup trends within this field of specialization. Bridal expos happen in many nearby towns including Naperville, Lisle and Glen Ellyn.
