Tricoci University Enrollment Requirements
Enrollment age can vary across state, program, and school. At the Tricoci University of Beauty Culture, students must be 18 years or older or can enroll at 17 with a parent or guardian signature.

Cosmetology School Curriculum
Our curriculum is based around six principle technical ideologies: Hair sculpture, Hair Design, Hair Color, Nails, Skin and Chemical Texturizing. We used an innovative approach to classroom instruction combining theory with practical in order to create a full understanding in each area.
Let’s take a closer look at the classes you’ll need to become a successful cosmetologist. Each class listed below is held in two phases. In our essentials curriculum, you’ll build the foundation of skills and knowledge you need to continue on to our advanced curriculum, which will refine your craft and teach you the business fundamentals you’ll use every day in the beauty industry.
Men’s Hair Sculpture – Advanced Men’s Hair Sculpture
Essentials covers the foundation of cutting: Holding tools, points, lines and angles as well as the 4 basic haircuts as well as Men’s cutting. Advanced covers how to sculpt the Tricoci Signature haircuts & combine cutting techniques to create any haircut wanted as well as how to use texturizing and detailing techniques to put students’ own signature on their haircuts!
Hair Design – Advanced Hair Design
Essentials covers the foundation of hair design: How to use the right products, essential blow dry and brush techniques to perfect your haircuts, iron curling and more. In Advanced, the student will dig deeper into designing formal styles, finishing your styles to the max and how to put your own signature on your design creations!
Color Processing – Advanced Color Processing
Essentials covers the foundation of color: Coloring, foiling, mixing, processing and formulation. In Advanced, the student will dig deeper into formulation and modern color and foil techniques and learn how to put their own signature on color creations!
Nails – Advanced Nails
Essentials covers the foundation of nail care: Manicuring, pedicuring, no chip procedure and how to polish. Advanced covers the acrylic procedures and the importance of understanding that nail care is a vital part of your education to become a well rounded Cosmetologist- and an important part of building your books!
Skin – Advanced Skin
Essentials covers the foundation of skin care: skin types, skin product usage, facial, makeup and waxing. In Advanced, you will dig deeper into creative makeup, body waxing and electrotherapy and how it benefits skin. It’s important to understand that skin care is a vital part of your education to become a well rounded Cosmetologist and an important part of building your books!
Chemical Texturizing – Advanced Chemical Texturizing
Essentials covers the foundation of chemical texturizing: wrapping perms, applying relaxers and how to manipulate hair texture. In Advanced, you will dig deeper into creative texturizing techniques and curl reformation procedures. Texture is back in a huge way so it’s important to learn how to have fun with texture to give your guests what they want and how to put your own signature on your texture creations!
Each specific program has unique characteristics and elements, but the general approach that Tricoci University of Beauty Culture uses is similar across all programs, as outlined below. All programs offered are regulated by State agencies whereas licensure is also required to work as a cosmetologist, barber, esthetician, manicurist, or beauty education teacher. Upon graduation, students will have earned a Certificate in their program of study.
After receiving your certificate, you may pursue licensure in your preferred state of employment.
The hour requirements must be met by each student in each category in order for the earned hours to be accepted by the applicable regulatory agency for examination.
- Cosmetology (1500 hours) Curriculum – Illinois
- Cosmetology (1500 hours) Curriculum – Indiana
- Cosmetology (1550 hours) Curriculum – Wisconsin
Cosmetology License Requirements
Licensing requirements vary by state, so it’s important to research and understand the requirements for any state you pursue licensure in. For Tricoci University students, we work with you to ensure you are prepared for board examination and licensure in the states where we offer our programs. In Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin, the licensing requirements are similar, but here’s what you need to know to be prepared.
Illinois Cosmetology License Requirements
Cosmetology, Esthetics, Barber, and Nail Technology Licensing: Each applicant shall submit to the Division of Professional Regulation (Division):
- The required Examination application and fee.
- A signed and completed licensure application that the applicant will receive with the notification of successful completion of the examination.
- Proof of any name change (i.e., marriage license, divorce decree, affidavit or court order) if different from that shown on pre-printed licensure application.
- Applicant social security number (SSN) is mandatory. If you do not have a SSN, you must submit the SSN affidavit.
- Fee for a license is $30 and is to be submitted with the application. Application fees are non-refundable.
- All documents in a foreign language must be accompanied by an original, notarized translation.
- Applicants have three years from the date your application is received by the Division or Continental Testing Service, Inc. to complete the application process. If the process is not completed in three years, the application will be denied and the fee forfeited.
Indiana Cosmetology Licensing Requirements
Towards the end of your program a staff member will review all steps that need to be taken so that you sit for your board examination and obtain your license. Here is a brief overview:
- Must be registered by the school to take the state examination.
- Application must be complete and accurate upon receipt to be fully processed.
- Application must be accompanied by the $40.00 application fee.
- Documentation must be in English or accompanied by a certified translation in English.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants must have completed a tenth grade education or equivalent.
- Applicants must have obtained 1500 hours of education and graduated within 3 years from the date of enrollment from an approved cosmetology school.
Wisconsin Cosmetology Licensing Requirements
In Wisconsin, students should be prepared to provide the following information in order to sit for a board examination and receive your cosmetology license:
- High school graduate or high school graduation equivalency.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Participate and complete a training program approved by the Department of Safety & Professional Services (DSPS).
- Pass the examination. (DL Roope Administrations Inc at www.dlroope.com – refer to website for examination and licensing fees)
- A signed and completed licensure the applicant will receive within 10-15 days upon successful completion of the examination.
Additionally, students from Wisconsin must complete one of the following training requirements:
- Graduate from a course of instruction of at least 1,550 training hours in not less than 10 months in a school of cosmetology licensed by the Department.
- Successfully completed an apprenticeship of at least 3,712 hours of practical training and at least 288 training hours of theoretical instruction in a school of cosmetology licensed by the Department.
