Makeup is used everywhere. When was the last time you turned on the television, watched a movie or went to the supermarket and did not see women wearing cosmetics? Probably never. With our second month of the Explorer’s Program at the Peoria Campus, we have more than doubled our number of interested young adults. This month as stated in last month’s review, the Explorers were able to dip into the wonderful world of makeup and get hands-on. Ms. Cricket started the evening with providing informative packets on Color Lab, and how we are lucky enough to be able to use such a pure and promising makeup line that not only comes from our home state of Illinois, but Rockford; how awesome. Ms. Kelly, the Esthetics instructor for the part-time program, performed an evening makeup application, complete with smokey eyes and artificial lash application topped off with ravishing red lips. She then demonstrated how to custom blend a lip gloss by adding pigment, sparkle and the flavor of cherries jubilee. The result was a beautiful red gloss comparable to Dorothy’s slippers in the Wizard of Oz. Then it was the Explorers turn to create and customize a gloss of their very own and what fun they had!

Yves Saint Laurent, a famous fashion designer in France once said, “The most beautiful makeup for a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy.” Ms. Cricket and Ms. Tori witnessed the passion that shined through the Explorers as they watched and created.

“Individuals in this industry that have passion for what they do and continue to learn and grow will become successful,” states Ms. Cricket. “The overall desire for this program is to provide educational evenings for these Explorers that will motivate and feed their passion.”
