Recently, Charles Ifergan Salon came in to do a presentation on cutting and styling hair. They presented a lot of different techniques on how to cut and style hair to fit the clients’ needs. Charles Ifergan stylists talked a lot about their assistant and internship program; which takes about eighteen months to complete the program, depending on personal rapidness of progress. On average, stylists’ assistants work forty or more hours a week making around $600 plus tips every two weeks. After your assisting program is over you can expect to earn $40,000-$50,000 by the end of your second year on the floor, after that, the sky is the limit. This salon doesn’t require a uniform as long as you are professionally dressed, whereas other salons might.

Before starting your internship you have to decide whether you want to be a colorist or a stylist. Because Charles Ifergan’s, and a lot of other salons’ assistant programs only cover one, you have to decide what you want to focus on before starting the program. Since I am about ready to graduate this is the time when I have to focus on which way to choose. During my evenings in beauty school I really have to concentrate on what I love doing most, color or style. If I decide to complete my assistant program at a departmentalized salon, one that requires you to choose, I will be asked to make this important decision in just a few short weeks. Charles Ifergan is a great salon to work for, especially if you are going to complete the training program there. I feel like I will learn a lot from all the stylists and it will be an amazing opportunity to learn and grow.
